We have already covered 87% of the needs detected in our counterparts in the first phase of the emergency.

Since the first alarms were raised in early March, Juan Ciudad NGO has strengthened its communication with 16 countries in Africa and South America to assist 50 Hospitaller Order centers in the face of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic.

Following the last two regional meetings held by centers and entities of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God with Juan Ciudad NGOs (on April 17, the Latin American Cooperation and Solidarity Committee and on April 21, the Crisis Committee for Africa), it has been possible to assess the coverage of the needs expressed by our counterparts during the first phase of the emergency, reaching 87%.

This was made possible thanks to the funds sent in the second half of March, following an exhaustive analysis of the situation on the ground and the different needs reported for each country.

In Africa and Latin America, San Juan de Dios centers have already been able to acquire Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hygiene and disinfection supplies, and food, which have been the most urgent priorities. A second phase now begins, in which aid is monitored to ensure maximum effectiveness. New needs are also assessed as the coronavirus epidemic progresses in each country, with measures constantly changing to maintain infection control.

We share with you details by country and a timeline of the activities carried out by Juan Ciudad NGO to date, and express our gratitude, on behalf of our partners, for all the support we have received.
