The Board of Trustees of Juan Ciudad NGO approves the 2020 Annual Accounts and Report

In 2020, Juan Ciudad developed 54 projects in 20 countries with 26 partners from Africa, Latin America, and Asia, benefiting more than 700,000 people.

On Monday, June 28th, the Board of Trustees of Juan Ciudad NGO approved our organization's annual accounts, which were duly audited, with satisfactory results and no exceptions. The 2020 Annual Report was also approved, a document that graphically summarizes the work carried out by our organization over the past year, a period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, Juan Ciudad NGO developed 54 projects in 20 countries with 26 partners, mostly social and healthcare centers belonging to the Hospitaller Order in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. More than 705,000 people directly benefited from the cooperation projects, and around 107,000 benefited from awareness-raising projects.

2020 has been marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has substantially affected the development of our activities. For Juan Ciudad NGO, the pandemic has marked a turning point in which the "crisis" has become an "opportunity," as we have swiftly adapted to a sudden change in context, making us more efficient in carrying out our mission. Our experience managing the Ebola epidemic has prepared us to face this major challenge. Thus, we have led the efforts to support our centers in Africa, Latin America, and Asia, both in coordinating aid and in protecting and maintaining our projects and the people who develop them.

As an example of adaptation, we have developed a new Online International Volunteering model as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and as an alternative to the suspension of the in-person international volunteering program that Juan Ciudad ONGD had been implementing in previous years. A total of 28 volunteers have contributed both in person and online to the development of the projects.

We also appreciate the contributions of more than 50 companies, public administrations, and centers of the Hospitaller Order to the development of our mission.

Furthermore, during 2020, our 14 regional branches have demonstrated their commitment to the most disadvantaged through selfless work that has allowed us to continue our charitable activities despite the challenges imposed by the pandemic, mobility restrictions, and lockdown. Thanks to their tireless dedication, we were able to collect 81,000 kg of essential products, which were sent to various locations where we operate.

Finally, we would like to mention that the activities of the NGO Juan Ciudad are closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. In this sense, 63% of the contribution from the projects we carried out during 2020 contributed to Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. Next, 23% was allocated to projects under Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Goals 10 and 4, Reduction of Inequalities and Quality Education respectively, received 3 and 4% of the contribution, while the remaining 7% was allocated to projects under other Goals contemplated by the United Nations.
