The project “Training and Inclusive Cooperatives for Social Transformation at the San Juan de Dios Shelter, Quito, Ecuador,” promoted by the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, seeks to foster the socioeconomic inclusion of people in situations of extreme vulnerability, such as migrants, displaced persons, the unemployed, or those at risk of social exclusion. To this end, it will develop training programs in baking, pastry making, sewing, and garment making, with the aim of equipping participants with technical skills that will improve their employment opportunities, income generation, and entrepreneurial ventures.
Furthermore, the project envisions the creation of production cooperatives through the provision of materials, specialized training, and technical assistance, as well as the development and marketing of products under the Hospitaller Order's brand. This initiative aims to improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries and, at the same time, generate sustainable income for the San Juan de Dios Shelter, an institution that has served people experiencing homelessness, poverty, disability, migration, and displacement since 1987. In this way, it seeks to address the lack of employment opportunities and the consequences exacerbated by the pandemic, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty eradication, education, decent work, and the reduction of inequalities.
