Juan Ciudad NGO participated in the Solidarity Week at Carlos III University

Our organization participated in Solidarity Week at the Getafe campus of Carlos III University with the presentation "Challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to improve health in impoverished countries," given by Ana Meyer, Project Coordinator, and Adriana Castro, Head of Communications.

The event was well attended by students, who learned about Juan Ciudad NGO's work in the field of International Cooperation, as well as the SDGs, with special emphasis on Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Ana Meyer presented concrete examples of improved health in impoverished countries through projects carried out by Juan Ciudad NGO, such as the 2015 initiative to reduce maternal and infant mortality at St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital in Monrovia (Liberia), which enabled 7,000 women to be treated thanks to the involvement of local midwives.

He also explained that thanks to the food security project carried out at the St. John of God Hospital in Lunsar (Sierra Leone), which increased crop production in 20 villages through a seed loan, not only did malnutrition decrease in the region, but the close relationship the hospital established with families also facilitated its assistance during the Ebola epidemic, when fear and uncertainty often hindered the delivery of aid.

Adriana Castro explained that Juan Ciudad NGO currently manages an average of 50 projects per year and sends a container of humanitarian aid approximately every two weeks to centers and hospitals in Africa and Latin America.

He also highlighted the importance of volunteering for this organization, which serves to channel the solidarity of people who collaborate both at the headquarters and branches in Spain and in impoverished countries.

Juan Ciudad NGO thanks Carlos III University once again for organizing Solidarity Week, as well as for inviting our organization, since raising awareness is another tool in the fight against poverty and in favor of defending human rights.
