Juan Ciudad NGO and the Valladolid City Council support the rights of people with disabilities through the creation of a Solidarity Wardrobe in Manizales, Colombia.

Both institutions have collaborated to create a space with therapeutic and capacity-building purposes for patients at the San Juan de Dios Clinic in the city.

The San Juan de Dios Clinic, located in the Colombian city of Manizales, now has a Wardrobe, a space built to receive clothing and household goods in good condition for later sale. The proceeds will be used to purchase basic necessities for the institution's low-income patients. It will also be used for their families, who often lack the financial means to pay for transportation, food, or lodging when they travel to visit their loved ones.

Therefore, the purpose of this wardrobe goes beyond the collection and treatment of clothing and other items. It also helps patients receive visits from their families and serves a therapeutic purpose. Under occupational therapy supervision, some patients receive care and work in this space, thus complementing their medical treatment.

The Wardrobe, which has an approximate area of 95 mÂČ, is located outside the center, and its facilities extend beyond a reception area for collecting donations. It has everything necessary to receive, process, and prepare clothing, footwear, toys, and school supplies for sale at affordable prices: a warehouse, a laundry and preparation area for clothing and supplies, including washing machines, sewing machines, and steam irons. In addition to the construction and provision of the infrastructure, clinic patients have been trained in its management so they can participate in its management and operation.

In line with its commitment to achieving more prosperous environments and communities that foster the development and health of patients and the well-being of society as a whole, the NGO Juan Ciudad and the Valladolid City Council have collaborated with the Manizales Clinic to cover the cost of building this shelter and to conduct awareness-raising workshops for the Manizales population, focusing on post-armed conflict mental health; reproductive health and family planning; and gender equality and women's rights.

For the San Juan de Dios Clinic in Manizales, “the San Juan Wardrobe project is framed within social welfare activities based on the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility [
]. The Colombian Province embraces CSR from a sustainable and charismatic management perspective that generates social, economic, and environmental value based on ethical behavior, community leadership, and respect for human rights based on its institutional principles and values, in compliance with current regulations and the legal and canonical framework that governs it.”
