Although infections are currently declining in Europe, they are increasing globally, and we can only halt the spread of the coronavirus and the other diseases we live with if we can do two things in parallel:
Keep triage and healthcare professionals protected. Objective: To detect all COVID-19 cases arriving at the centers, and to isolate and refer them safely to the services provided for their treatment, both for the workers and for society.
Keep maternal and child health and prevalent disease services open such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and many others that cause high mortality (even higher than COVID-19). The goal: to prevent the closure of essential health services, which in turn will prevent thousands of deaths.
During the Ebola outbreak, thousands of people died from preventable causes after hospitals and health centers collapsed.
Furthermore, we will prevent the progress made so far in relation to the SDGs from being reversed, especially SDG 3, which defends the right to health.
