The project began in May 2017, driven by the San Juan de Dios Clinic in Iquitos, located in the Peruvian Amazon. It is managed by Juan Ciudad NGO and funded by the San Juan de Dios Foundation of the Province of Castilla of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God.
The objectives of this initiative are to improve the quality of life and health of the population in the four Iquitos settlements with high rates of poverty and health problems, through an intervention based on community-based health promotion and prevention.

To this end, four university promoters and 16 community health workers from the settlements themselves have been trained. In these first five months of the project, they have already carried out intensive training and field work, visiting 381 homes to prioritize maternal and child needs, such as pregnancy monitoring, breastfeeding, diarrhea prevention, population registration, among others.
We will continue to inform you about this initiative in the coming weeks.
